New Delhi: Assuring the investors in tourism industry of a "Red carpet welcome for investments in AP” on behalf of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Y Sujana Chowdary, said that AP Tourism was bound to emerge a top growth engine in the country.

  • State government is eyeing Rs 20,000 crore investments in tourism sector by 2029

Addressing media after inaugurating an all-India conference on Hotel Investment here on Tuesday, the Minister said the Sunrise State of AP offered a plethora of enchanting yet unexplored destinations. “The State government was eyeing Rs 20,000 crore investments in this sector by 2029. The target was Rs 10,000 crore investments by 2020,” he added.

It may be recalled here that a shelf of district and theme-based projects worth Rs 36,000 crore had already been prepared and initiated. Projects worth Rs 1,500 crore had already been grounded. Tourist footfalls had also increased during 2015 by 30 per cent.

In a bid to match investor expectations with the State's resoluteness of intent, the State government in its award winning AP Tourism Policy had announced an array of incentives to investors for taking up tourism infrastructure projects and services such as fixed land rental of 2 per cent of basic market value for investors, reduction in VAT slabs to 5 per cent for hotels and resorts and a three-year holiday on luxury and entertainment tax amongst others.

An effort was also on to encourage investments for tour operators and travel agencies. “AP's long coastline, forests and tiger reserves, wildlife and bird sanctuaries, hill stations, Buddhist circuits and temple tourism were unique and explorable by everyone,” the Minister said. Medical tourism was yet another example, he said while pointing out that mega convention centres are coming up at Visakhapatnam, Tirupati and Vijayawada and an Indian Culinary Institute at Tirupati.

The new capital Amaravati would also need a huge hospitality industry and related investments, he added. Speaking on tourism potential, Neerabh Kumar Prasad, principal secretary, Tourism and Culture, said the six tourist hubs of Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry-Konaseema-Kakinada, Vijayawada-Amaravati, Tirupati, Anantapur-Puttaparthi and Srisailam would also strengthen the infrastructure further.

Earlier, the tourism officials highlighted at the conference, AP's vision to be among the top three States in the country. Tourism was among the top 40 growth engines identified by the State, they said.
