Vijayawada: Members of Swarajya Maidan Parirakshana Committee submitted a memorandum to District Collector Babu A here on Tuesday, appealing him to withdraw the attempt to shift the Rytu Bazaar from Swarajya Maidan and transform the place into a park. Responding to their appeal, District Collector Babu A said that plans were afoot by the officials to construct ‘Vijayawada Square’ on the premises of Swarajya Maidan to provide pleasant ambiance for the denizens.

In this regard the encroachments on the ground would be removed. He wanted people not to believe the false promotion over the place. He also assured that arrangements would be made by the officials to conduct book festivals, industrial exhibitions and public meetings like earlier.
On the occasion, committee members also urged the Collector to rethink the proposal of shifting Rytu Bazaar from Swarajya Maidan. City Congress president Malldi Vishnu, CPI city secretary Donepudi Kasinath, CPM city secretary Baburao, Aam Adami Party convener Pothina Rama Rao, Krishna Delta Parirakshna Samithi leader Kolankonda Shivaji and other leaders were present.
