Rift between TDP & BJP widening

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is angry with the Centre. The tone and tenor of the interaction he had with the Secretary of Department of Personnel and Training Sanjay Kothari during a teleconference from Vijayawada on Wednesday gives clear indication that the gap between the TDP and the BJP is widening.

Naidu told Sanjay, “Don’t wait for the government to ask you to fulfil what was promised to the State. People here are unhappy and upset as nothing has been done so far by the Centre to help the State.” Sanjay Kothari was in Hyderabad to assess the implementation of the AP Reorganisation Act 2014, including implementation of the provisions of the Act.

Stating that it was the Congress-led government that had done a lot of injustice to Andhra Pradesh at the time of bifurcation, Chandrababu Naidu told the Central officer, “We don’t have a capital. We started with over Rs 16,000 crore revenue deficit. We are far behind all the southern States. We need hand-holding as promised at the time of elections.”

Expressing his displeasure over not granting Special Category Status to AP as was promised at the time of bifurcation, Chandrababu Naidu said, “The special category status is not given. There is no full support from the Centre to build the capital Amaravati. No industries. No infrastructure. All institutions of higher education and research remain in Hyderabad.

To reach that stage, Centre should support the State. Please convey these feelings of the people to the Centre.” Stating that bifurcation was imposed on the people of Andhra Pradesh, the Chief Minister reiterated that there is a feeling among people that injustice was done to them.

“People still believe that justice is not being done to them in many issues till date,” he said. The Chief Minister requested the senior officer to brief the Centre to do justice to the State at least in the division of employees between the two States and added that “people will continue to feel that they were cheated if justice is not done”.

The Chief Minister said that the State required an amount of Rs 5 lakh crore to build the new capital and to establish all central educational and research institutions. He sought to impress upon the Central officer that it was not right on the part of the Central government to wait for the State to ask for funds. “Please convey our feelings to the Prime Minister and ensure that justice is done to the State.
