5 escort cops injured as truck hits jeep
Five escort policemen including an ASI, head constable, two constables and a driver were injured when a lorry coming out from a petrol bunk on the NH-16 near Yelamanchili hit the police jeep proceeding to Tandava junction, near Tuni, the border for Vizag and East Godavari districts on Sunday.
Payakaraopet (Visakhapatnam): Five escort policemen including an ASI, head constable, two constables and a driver were injured when a lorry coming out from a petrol bunk on the NH-16 near Yelamanchili hit the police jeep proceeding to Tandava junction, near Tuni, the border for Vizag and East Godavari districts on Sunday.
The mishap occurred when the policemen were going from Vizag to Tandava junction to provide escort to Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas, who was coming from Rajahmundry with the escort of East Godavari police to Vizag to attend the VIMS inauguration function to be held on Monday.
After Vizag police accompanied the Minister’s convoy to Vizag, the East Godavari police escort will go back to Rajahmundry from Tandava border. Of the five injured, ASI Venkata Rao suffered a spinal injury, head constable Bhaskar Rao suffered a head injury, constables John and Appalaraju suffered fractures and the driver Venkateswara Rao escaped with minor injuries. All the five injured were rushed to a corporate hospital in the city and a case has been registered.
