Vijayawada: Minister for Rural Development and Housing Kimidi Mrunalini said on Wednesday the government spends Rs 5,500 crore every year for the distribution of pensions in the State and would end up spending nearly Rs 30,000 crore in five years of TDP rule.
She said instructions were issued to the officials to distribute pensions to the old people and disabled between 6 to 9 am during summer for two months. The Minister said the government is distributing pensions with the certificate given by VRO to those whose finger prints and Iris not collected and said the government is trying to sanction loans to eligible old people and physically-challenged.
Mrunalini conducted a review meeting with the officials of various departments at the Sub-collector’s office and later spoke to the media persons here on Wednesday.
Referring to loans sanctioned to the Self-Help Groups, the Minister said the government has given subsidy of Rs 1,338 crore to the 6.20 lakh Self-help groups during the last 15 months and additional funds of Rs.300 crore would be released very soon.
Mrunalini said the government is taking measures for the upliftment of one lakh women in each district by providing financial assistance. She said the government distributed loans Rs 13,500 crore to 4.27 lakh self help groups in the year 2015-16. Referring to sanitation in the schools, the Minister informed that self-help groups are taking up sanitation work in 27,000 schools in the State and government is giving Rs 2,000 for primary school, Rs 2,500 for upper primary school and Rs 4,000 for high school. She said the government has taken up tailoring training for the women in a massive scale in the State. She announced that 10,900 women were given training in stitching in the State in two months and sewing machines were distributed to the women at a cost of Rs 3.38 crore on subsidy of 50 per cent.
Mrunalini said tailoring classes would be conducted for 40 days in the mandal headquarters as part of the women empowerment programme in the State.
Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA) director China Tataiah, DRDA project director Dr Chandrasekhara Raju and officers of rural development department attended the meeting.
