Kurnool: As many as 35 persons, mostly NREGS workers, have become victims of sunstroke in the district. This is the first time that
many people have died due to sunstroke. Many mandals in the district have reported temperatures over 43 degree Celsius last month. On
Tuesday, the maximum temperature of 43 degree Celsius was recorded in the district. The severe heat wave conditions also led to the
drying up of water bodies in several villages. Even waterholes in the forests have dried up.

There were also some incidents of wild animals straying into human habitations in search of food and water. As per the available records
with the District Medical and Health Officer, the figure stands at 35 but unofficial figures might be higher. District Medical and Health
Officer M Sharada said that the all the medical staff put on alert and precautionary measures were also taken in the 83 PHCs across the
district. Adequate ORS (Oral Rehydration Syrup) sachets have been dispatched to PHCs, she added.
