Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation (APCCIF) saw a greater advantage for the city airport in the days to come. It predicted that the international flight services would be of greater advantage to the city. Though the airport located at Gannavaram now has international flight connectivity from New Delhi, it would soon see direct international flight services from here, asserted the chamber president M Murali Krishna.
Speaking to press persons here on Wednesday, Murali Krishna said that the airport has two services connected to Delhi airport from where the passengers have connecting flight services to different international destinations. He said that the officials have already started booking luggage from international destinations from Gannavaram airport. It would soon start the immigration desk that would clear the way for the international operations from here, he added.
He thanked the local MP Kesineni Srinivas for his initiative in getting Air India services to Gannavaram airport and also getting funds for its upgradation. The improvement of the existing runway and its expansion and construction of the terminal building with parking bay would give scope to international operations. The customers in Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad are mostly from the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh who would soon shift their boarding base to Vijayawada, Murali Krishna asserted. The increasing industrialisation around the city, particularly in the planning of the capital, Amaravati, would also bring international passengers here in the days to come.
He felt that the scope for establishing more industries around the city is increasing with the initiatives of the new government headed by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. He felt that the government was focusing more on industry promotion that would bring global passengers for the city airport.
The chamber secretary Chukkapalli Prasad, executive director P Bhaskara Rao and others were present.
