Visakhapatnam: The City Congress Committee paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary here on Saturday.

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Dronamraju Srinivas, City Congress president Behara Bhaskar Rao and City Mahila president Pedada Ramani Kumari garlanded the portrait of Rajiv Gandhi and recalled his services to the nation.

Dronamraju Srinivas said that the country had witnessed tremendous development in science, technology and Information Technology during Rajiv’s tenure. “Vizag has a special relationship with Rajiv Gandhi as he had toured the Vizag city as part of his last political visit and thus the Vizagites are unable to digest the sudden death of Rajiv even today,” he reminded.

City president Bhaskar Rao has called upon the party activists to imbibe the virtues of Rajiv, who had secured a permanent place in the hearts of all sections of people by introducing many reforms. City Mahila president Ramani Kumari also spoke.

INTUC National leader Rajsekhar Mantri, former chairman of VUDA P S N Raju, Seva Dal chairman P Satyanarayana, district NSUI president L Rama Rao, party leaders Gunturu Narasimha Murty, L Srinivas, G Mohan Rao, M Satyanarayana Raju, K Gopal Reddy and others were present.

At another meeting at Tatichetlapalem, City Congress secretary K Gopal Reddy and PCC secretary G Mohan Rao garlanded the statue of Rajiv Gandhi and paid tributes. Gopal Reddy said that the credit of providing voting rights to all those completed 18 years of age goes to Rajiv Gandhi. Ward president N Pola Rao, leaders S Tirupati Rao, BC Cell Chairperson P Jyothi, J Ravi and others were present.
