Vijayawada: The Anganwadi centres in the State would now offer LKG and UKG classes for the pre-school children from the next academic year. The officials and the staff are making required arrangements for starting nursery classes keeping in view the demand for these classes, which are offered by the private schools.

Disclosing this to the media persons here on Thursday, Minister for Human Resources Ganta Srinivasa Rao said that the government schools were also focusing on improving the enrolment besides introducing English medium.

He said that the government is taking steps to provide English medium education in the government schools to enable them to compete with the private schools. The government is also planning to provide basic literacy for the members of the Self-Help Groups and the workers of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS).

The Education department had already taken up a survey to identify and prepare a chart of the SHG members and NREGS workers based on their literacy levels. They would be given education opportunity through the AP Open Schools Society, the Minister said.

While thanking the Central government for clearing the proposals for IIT at Tirupati and NIT at Tadepalligudem in West Godavari district, Srinivasa Rao said though seven institutions were sanctioned for the State, only Rs 172 crore were allocated which was not sufficient even to construct compound walls for the same.

On Eamcet admissions, the Minister said that counselling for engineering courses would start from June 22. Officials would issue notification on May 27, and start verification of applications from June 6. The seat allotment would be held from June 22 and classes would start from June 27, the Minister said.
