Srikakulam: With a view to developing transport network and connectivity in rural areas, the State government proposed roads with an estimated cost of Rs 412.04 crore in Srikakulam district during 2015-16 and 2016-17 financial years under the supervision of Panchayati Raj department, according to Superintendent Engineer A Mohan Murali.

In 2015-16 financial year, 250 km long CC roads were proposed in villages with an estimated cost of Rs 67.05 crore. Out of them, 220 km long roads were completed. In the same year, 165.19 km long BT roads were proposed with Rs 50.35 crore funds and total works finished. In 2016-17 financial year, 422 km long CC roads were proposed with Rs 170 crore funds.

Out of them, 65 km long works were completed and Rs 12.05 crore was spent till the end of April this year. For the same year, 200 km long BT roads were proposed with Rs 125 crore estimations. Out of them, 14.03 km long roads were completed and Rs 2.06 crore was spent. “With an aim to develop road connectivity in rural areas, the government directed us to complete road works on a war footing,” said the SE.
