Krishna District Joint Collector Gandham Chandrudu called upon the voluntary organisations and NGOs to render their services to cater the needs of lakhs of devotees who throng the city during Krishna Pushkaralu. ​Vijayawada: Krishna District Joint Collector Gandham Chandrudu called upon the voluntary organisations and NGOs to render their services to cater the needs of lakhs of devotees who throng the city during Krishna Pushkaralu. He held a meeting with the organisations through video conference at Collector’s camp office here on Tuesday.

The Joint Collector said that they would require support from volunteers, cultural and spiritual organisations to look into the needs of nearly three crore devotees who are likely to take a dip in River Krishna on the occasion of Pushkaralu from August 12 to 23. Volunteers have to assist about one lakh devotees a day.

Their services are required for distribution of Prasadam to all, milk to the children and support the physically challenged and senior citizens. He said Pushkar Nagar were set up at each ghat. The district authorities were ready to provide the necessary infrastructure to the organisations that come forward to serve the needy.

Volunteers could select a ghat or Pushkar Nagar where they want to discharge their duties. Arrangements would be made accordingly. The Joint Collector said that some of the organisations and volunteers had committed that they would arrange for wheelchairs, emergency treatment, basic medicines, doctors team and lab technician services, Annadanam arrangements among others.

Sub-Collector G Srujana, DSO V Ravi Kiran, Divisional ASO P Komali Padma, representatives from organisations such as Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce, ISKCON, Rama Krishna Mission Trust, Prem Sai, Arya Vysya, Lion’s Club, Alluri Seetharamaraju Seva Samithi, Bharatha Vikas Parishad, Viswa Hindu Parishad, Akshaya Patra Foundation etc were present.
