Hyderabad: The South Central Railway (SCR) is planning to run at least 500 special trains for the Krishna Pushkaralu. According to estimates, about 2,000 coaches are being pooled and Rs 32 crore would be spent to spruce up amenities on the trains.

As part of the preparations, additional passenger-shelters at nine stations across the zone, three escalators at Vijayawada, foot over-bridges, indicators/signages and additional booking counters are being planned. A senior railway official said that SCR had effectively handled Godavari Pushkaralu last year and no effort would be spared to ensure good facilities for the passengers, this time around as well.

The Krishna River flows through Mahbubnagar and Nalgonda in Telangana into Andhra Pradesh. SCR is making plans to handle the rush from the inter-state border between Telangana and Karnataka as authorities expect a daily flow of nearly 2.7 lakh passengers.

SCR general manager Ravindra Gupta informed that there would be halts at Jogulamba station that comes just after Gadwal in Mahbubnagar district, on the Secunderabad-Kurnool section.
