Hyderabad: The government of Andhra Pradesh has made up its mind to ask for the Central Bureau of Investigation to probe into Agrigold scam. This was informed to the High Court at Hyderabad on Wednesday by Advocate-General of AP Dammalapati Srinivas during the course of hearing on the Public Interest Litigation filed by Agrigold Depositors and Agents Association.

The division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Dilip B Bhosale and Justice S V Bhatt asked Srinivas to submit the order copy of the state government by the next hearing on Tuesday. It also suggested to the Telangana government through its Special Government Pleader Sharat to consider recommending CBI probe on the lines of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. He sought time to get back to the court on this.

Agrigold management did not comply with the court’s earlier direction of depositing Rs 25 lakh towards costs of second and third phase of auction of properties. Counsel for Agrigold L Ravichander sought further time to arrange the money as there were difficulties with the top management lodged in jail.

The bench expressed anger at this and said the management was trying to be clever with the intention of dragging the proceedings. It reminded that many of the depositors have committed suicide unable to bear with the loss and wondered whether the management intends to encourage more such deaths. It ordered that the amount must be deposited by Tue sday and the next list of properties for auction must be prepared.

The counsel for the committee appointed by the High Court to oversee auction of Agrigold assets Ravi Kumar and counsel for the petitioner K Sravan Kumar raised some issues before the bench to which it responded positively.
