Visakhapatnam: If nothing was developed by the Congress party in the last 65 years, how did India become a great nation, AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing a gathering of party workers here on Thursday, Digvijay Singh claimed that there was no other political party except Congress that works for the empowerment of poor and downtrodden, development of nation and protecting communal harmony. It was Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who laid the stone for development for what India is today,” he said.

Taking a dig at Narendra Modi’s pre-poll promise of bringing back black money, the Congress leader questioned what happened to the black money and why was not Rs 15 lakh deposited in accounts of individuals. He dubbed Modi and the BJP leaders as liars.

Stating that the Janata Party, which came to power in 1977 has changed all the pro-poor policies introduced by Indira Gandhi, the in-charge of AP party affairs said that there were only two parties, one that supports poor, Dalits, minorities and tribals and the other that supports big industrialists.

Speaking about bifurcation of State, he said that it was done only with the consent of TDP, BJP, YSRCP and other parties. “Congress was the last party to sign on the bifurcation document after incorporating issues like special category status for ten years, special packages to backward districts, Polavaram project and tax concessions,” he asserted.

Alleging that Modi only promises things and does not fulfill, he accused the NDA government of keeping mum on important issues. “Though it was clearly stated in the AP State Re-organisation Act that the entire cost of the Polavaram project must be borne by the Centre, they have not released a penny,” he remarked.

He accused Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of foisting false cases against Kapu leaders and branded him as a dictator. “Naidu is going ahead with the capital construction by demolishing temples, mosques and churches hurting the sentiments of all religions. He has acquired lands from the farmers without paying proper compensation,” he alleged.
