Eluru: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) will launch a week-long agitation from July 11 to 18 in the district to protest against the failure of the State and Central governments in checking unemployment and price spiral.

Addressing the media at Uddaraju Ramam Bhavan here on Sunday, CPM district secretary B Balaram said, “In the past two years, the NDA government has virtually done nothing. It ignored the major poll promise of employment generation in the country and at the same time failed to control the rising prices of essential commodities.

It has hampered the interests of the poor and middle-class sections.”

He accused the NDA government of ignoring its poll promise of generating two crore jobs in the country every year. In fact, it did not even bother to fill 7.45 lakh posts lying vacant in all the government departments in the country.

“We are demanding that all the vacant posts in the Central and the State governments be filled immediately and also reservation should be implemented in private sector to benefit the backward classes,” he said.

“The prices of pulses, diesel, sugar and other essential commodities had been on the rise for the past two years as there were no efforts by the governments to control them.

The Central government did not make any effort in improving the public distribution system and implementation of the rural and urban employment guarantee laws,” the CPM leader said. He alleged that the State government had enhanced all taxes including service tax, house tax and water tax.

District CPM Secretariat member Chintakayala Babu Rao alleged that the e-POS system failed to plug pilferage at ration shops. District secretariat member Gudipati Narasimharao was also present.
