Visakhapatnam: Waterfalls in the district are flowing at their best as rains are experienced all over the district thanks to vigorous monsoon. The natural beauty of the waterfalls draws sizeable crowds to watch the nature’s splendour from a close distance. However, much needs to be done for developing these waterfalls to attract tourists from all over the country.

The waterfalls located at Katika, Chaparayi, Tadiguda and Rana Jilleda are the important ones. Besides these, there are 13 minor waterfalls. Some of them flow perennially.

In the monsoon season, they flow with full force. In Visakha Agency area, one can come across several minor waterfalls on either side of the road. The Katika waterfalls offer a magnificent view to tourists as water descends magnificently from a height of 1,600 ft. It was just a km away from tourist spot of Borra Caves in Anantagiri mandal. It has no pucca motorable road. Only jeeps can negotiate the kutcha road taking the tourists to a place close to the waterfalls. The tourists have to climb up and down 120 steps after crossing the railway track.

To reach the spot, they have to trek a distance of half a kilometer. Another important waterfalls in the district, which are not so familiar to the outsiders is Tadiguda waterfalls in Anantagiri mandal.

It is situated at a distance of one km from Anantagiri. The Tourism Department had laid a pucca road at a cost of Rs 60 lakh to the spot. The number of tourists visiting the area is limited as there are no tourist amenities close to the tourist attraction. The Chaparayi waterfalls is popular with the tourists of Visakha Agency area.
Reaching the spot is easy as it is accessible for people because of its location close to the main road. Tourists can park their vehicles and walk into the water.

It is situated at a height of 3,215 feet above the sea level. It is located on the Araku-Paderu main road, besides its location is very close to Araku and Dumbriguda drawing thousands of people daily.

Besides these, the Rana Jilleda waterfalls is located just two km away from the famous tourist spot of Padmapuram gardens in Araku valley. People are not allowed to take a bath under it as it is the main source of water supply to Araku and some other areas in the vicinity. Tourism Department is also planning to organise boat trips in the lake created by the waterfalls.

Though the Sirigam waterfalls, located close to Sirigam panchayat, it is not recognised as a tourist place. It is located 12 km away from Araku. To reach the spot, one has to walk long distance on farm bunds.

The location did not find favour with the tourists as there was no pucca road. In the Araku valley, only some of the waterfalls are accessible to tourists. The tourists will flock them only when the government provides road communication facility and other amenities.
