On Saturday, a woman from each of the 1500 houses in the village performed ‘abhishekam’ to Lord Siva and Goddess Uma. They performed panchamruta abhishekham to deities in the temple, including Lord Lakshminarayana, Lord Ganesh and Lord Surya in the Siva Panchayatana Kshetra temple.

According to legend, there was a severe drought in the village 40 years ago. Then a Siva Linga was discovered in the village temple tank with Goddess Gangamma sitting atop the siva Linga.

The villagers built a temple for it and performed Sahasrabhishekam to appease the deities. As a consequence, drought was driven out of the village’s soil. Temple priest Cherukuru Veerababu said that the villagers strongly believe that performing abhishekam would appease Rain Gods.
