Tirupati: The CPM and CPI condemned the use of force on the poor, who were observing a relay fast in Renigunta, to press the district administration to provide house sites. Addressing a joint press conference here on Sunday, CPM district secretary and CPI district council member Narasimhulu said that the revenue authorities deployed the police force to foil the relay hunger strike launched by the poor in front of the mandal revenue office in Renigunta, 10 km from here, on Saturday.

Even women were not spared by the police who roughed them up to spoil the relay hunger strike. The two leaders said that the Left parties will resume the stir and continue till the revenue authorities issue pattas to all the 1,200 eligible poor, who were identified by the officials, after carrying out a survey.

In this connection, Kumar Reddy lashed out at the Collector, who he said was acting as a despot, and alleged that it was at his behest the local revenue official called the police to forcefully evict the peaceful protestors. Dubbing the Collector as anti-poor, he declared that the Left parties would not rest till house site pattas were given to all the identified poor in Renigunta town.
