Rajamahendravaram: The future of Andhra Pradesh is looking bleak as the BJP has made it clear that Special Category Status is not going to be granted for the State, said senior TDP leader and Rajamahendravaram Rural MLA Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary.

He alleged that the BJP was completely ignoring the interests of the State. He hinted that TDP might pull out of the NDA if the BJP did not mend its ways. Speaking to the media on Saturday, Gorantla said that the BJP was testing the patience of his party at every stage and warned that it was going to meet the same fate as that of the Congress in the last elections. He maintained that the Central government did not keep its promises and asked why it was not sanctioning enough funds for Polavaram and Amaravati.

He lamented that the centre did not heed the pleas of the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu who made 36 visits to New Delhi. He alleged that the BJP has supported the Congress in dividing the State and assured Special Category Status for 10 years.

While reacting to the Centre’s argument that it had sanctioned many prestigious institutions to the State, he said that it is the State government that was providing site, infrastructure and other amenities.

Admitting that it is not possible to put pressure on the Centre as the BJP has got the full majority, he mentioned that the State government would fight with the Centre. Stating that anger was gripping the people of the State on the Special Category Status, he added that the situation might demand the revision of alliance with the BJP.

He faulted the Union Finance Minister’s statement that the Centre would sanction loan through NABARD for Polavaram project and questioned the rationality in declaring Polavaram as a national project.
