Srikakulam: An education institutions’ bandh was observed in Srikakulam district on Monday on a call given by student organisations in protest against the alleged neglect of government schools by the TDP government.
The activists of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and the Progressive Democratic Students’ Union (PDSU), All India Students Federation (AISF) and PDSO took out protest marches in the city and other parts of the district and enforced the bandh called to press their demands including dearth of teachers, basic amenities etc.
The students union leaders said students, particularly those belonging to SC, ST and BC communities, were suffering because of poor infrastructure in State-run hostels. They said the State government was not paying attention to issues concerning students like regulation of fees in private schools etc.
They said the corporate education became out of reach for the poor and the middle class sections due to the lack of control on fee fixation. They highlighted the need to improve academic standards by filling the teacher vacancies.
