New Delhi: YSRCP lashed out at the TDP leadership here on Monday accusing it of shedding crocodile tears on the demand of Special Status for AP. Asking the TDP to review its support to the BJP at the Centre, the party questioned the commitment of the allies to the development of the State.

Talking to mediapersons, here on Monday, the party's Parliamentary Party leader, M Raj Mohan Reddy along with his colleagues, B Renuka and Y V Subba Reddy, said the protests of the TDP in the Parliament had come bit too late. The statement of the Chief Minister, N Chandrababdu Naidu, that no one was ready to help in developing the State - in reaction to the Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley's reply in the Rajya Sabha the other day – sounded shallow, Reddy added.

  • YSRC MP M Raj Mohan Reddy alleges the TDP protests in Parliament has come in bit too late and they should sever ties with BJP
  • Terms the CM’s statement that no one is coming forward to help the State as shallow
  • Recalls Naidu’s earlier statements questioning the necessity of special category status itself

Recalling the earlier observations of TDP, he said the Naidu never exerted pressure on the Centre for the Special Category Status. Moreover, Naidu himself questioned the necessity of special status in developing a State citing the progress in States where such a provision already existed, Raj Mohan Reddy asked.

He also criticised the TDP for not daring to enter the well of the House, while raising slogans for the special status. "We not only raised slogans, displayed placards but also trooped into the well of the House. What was holding them back. If they were serious about the protests, they should have tried to disrupt the proceedings as we did" the MP added.

He termed the TDP’s protest in the House as comical. "Our leader (Jagan) had gone on a eight day hunger strike on the issue. As a ruling party and ally of the BJP, the TDP could have done better if it was interested in securing the special status.

Perhaps they would do so if the BJP gets routed in the UP Assembly elections. An opportunist like Naidu would then use the occasion to walk out of the alliance citing the special status, until then he would only wait and watch", he added.

Demanding the PM to honour the commitment made in the House to the people of Andhra Pradesh, Reddy said all assurances given thereof in the AP Reorganisation Act must be implemented.
