Eluru: Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Eluru Range P V S Ramakrishna has said that police have devised a traffic management strategy for preventing traffic congestion on the main road leading to the ghats, during the ensuing Krishna Pushkaralu.

The DIG conducted a review meeting on the traffic regulations during the Pushkaralu with Krishna, East and West Godavari districts Lorry Owners Association leaders at district police office here on Saturday.

Later speaking to the media, the DIG said the strategy has been designed in a comprehensive manner to overcome various loopholes in the existing traffic system, including the acute shortage of parking space in the district and prevent traffic snarls during the mega religious fete.

According to the DGP, the plan of action encompasses effective use of hi-tech aerial surveillance gadgets to regulate the movement of vehicular traffic and implement the traffic management and security plans in a professional manner.

The action plan contained a slew of initiatives to bring about effective coordination between the police personnel and heavy vehicle owners, he added.

He said heavy vehicles from Visakhapatnam to Chennai would be diverted through Sidhantham and Chinchinada bridges towards Ongole via Narsapuram, Kaikaluru, Gudivada and Chirala. He said the traffic regulations would be strictly implemented to ensure hassle-free pilgrimage for devotees during the Pushkaralu.

He said the authorities have earmarked parking space at Pushkar ghats in Vijayawada. He said that all police personnel from West Godavari district were drafted for Krishna Pushkaralu duty. DSP (Special Branch) Bhaskar Rao, DSP G Venkateswara Rao, Traffic DSP Srinivasa Rao and others were present.
