Youth enjoy at widened spacious ghats
The ghats have been developed this time by removing encroachments. The Padmavathi Ghat located right in front of the bus station at Krishna Lanka is now spacious.The encroachments at the ghat, including those on the way to the crematorium are cleared and the area is totally left to the pilgrims. Same is the case with the Krishnaveni Ghat which is located close to the Prakasam Barrage.
Vijayawada: The spacious ghats and the increasing inflows to the rivers in the upstream of Prakasam Barrage is giving happy time for the pilgrims to enjoy the river water. Sitting on the ghats for a few hours and playing around in the water for some more time is all what the young pilgrims do in the Pushkaralu.
The ghats have been developed this time by removing encroachments. The Padmavathi Ghat located right in front of the bus station at Krishna Lanka is now spacious.The encroachments at the ghat, including those on the way to the crematorium are cleared and the area is totally left to the pilgrims. Same is the case with the Krishnaveni Ghat which is located close to the Prakasam Barrage.
The ghat is now widened after removing small vendors and a couple of temples, which have been occupying the ghat. Though the officials have planned to remove the Sanaiswara Temple here, they could not do so due to protest from the people.
The Durga Ghat located at the foot of the Indrakeeladri Hill, the abode of Goddess Durga, too is expanded. The VIP Ghat that was located close to the Prakasam Barrage was connected to this ghat opening the entire space for the pilgrims.
The Punnami Ghat and the Bhavani Ghat at Bhavanipuram have been connected as part of a permanent tourism project proposed by the government. The two ghats are spread over five kilometres along the river having ample space for the pilgrims. The officials have cleared the encroachments here providing comfortable entry and exit besides free movement in the area.
On Tuesday, the inflows to the river have increased with the water released at Pulichintala reaching Prakasam Barrage. The water levels went up slowly occupying the platforms at the Bhavani, Punnami and Durga Ghats giving a sigh of relief for the officials and a joy for the pilgrims.
The officials have released 10,885 cusecs of water at Pulichintala a couple of days ago which had reached the barrage on Tuesday morning.
The officials have also released 17,107 cusecs of water from Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir which is expected to reach Prakasam Barrage in the next three to four days. Minister for Water Resources, Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao, said that they have decided to maintain 11.4 feet water level at Prakasam Barrage for the convenience of the pilgrims.
