New Delhi: Pawan effect continued to rock the Capital with the Centre continuing consultations on "the draft plan on assurances given to AP during bifurcation".

This 'something special' for AP is expected to be announced soon. The party, once again, went ahead and clarified that in view of the 14th Finance Commission recommendations a Special Category Status could not be granted.

While Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP chief Amit Shah too continued discussions with Modi and later with Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson and incharge of AP Affairs Siddharth Nath Singh clarified to media that the Government was committed to all the promises made to AP in the past.

“The promises will be implemented one after the other,” he said. Asked to react on Pawan Kalyan's tirade against the BJP recently at Tirupati, Singh said his speech should not be read out of the context and the actor was not critical of the BJP.

The sentiment is strong no doubt in favour of the Special Category Status, but everyone should remember that the recommendations of the 14th Finance Commission were unanimously passed in Parliament, even by those who were questioning the Commission’s recommendations of late.

There was a problem in granting the Special Category Status to AP in view of the recommendations but the Centre was keen to assist AP in every way. Nomenclature of the hand-holding exercise should not be important, but what should be important was the actual help rendered.

AP would get sufficient funding and assistance in every respect and that should matter, he reiterated toeing Arun Jaitley’s line. The Centre was giving a financial shape to the assurances taking into consideration every promise either listed in the AP Reorganisation Act or made on the floor of Parliament in the past.

Amit Shah is said to be pertinent that Pawan Kalyan's factor does not affect the party chances in any way in AP in future. While the TDP is insisting that the much-awaited announcement by the Centre should be projected as "a result of its efforts", the BJP is said to be having other plans.

Amit Shah's plan is to make the announcement sound like more a "Pawan-windfall" as it set to succeed the actor's demand. The TDP is said to be insisting on the Special Status more as it is an emotional issue.
