Andhra Pradesh registered 282 cases of cyber crimes in 2014 but the number shot up to 536 in 2015 (surge of 90.1 per cent). Similarly, a total of 522 persons were arrested for the cyber crimes in 2015 while the number of arrests was only 236 in 2014.

Bihar registered 114 complaints in 2014 and the number rose to 242 in 2015. But there was a phenomenal increase in the arrests. As many as 111 persons were arrested in 2014 but the following year, the number of arrests was 1,567. There was a surge in cyber crime cases in Odisha.

As per the report, 124 cases were registered in 2014 and it went up to 386 cases in 2015, registering an increase by 211.3 per cent. While 17 persons were arrested in 2014, 110 were arrested in 2015, the annual report said. The NCRB data reveals that of the total 522 arrested persons in cyber crimes in the State, 156 arrested are students and 99 are neighbours, friends and relatives of the complainants. The others include computer geeks (experts in hacking) etc.

The AP State Police data states that a total of 308 cyber crimes, including online bank frauds, job rackets, e-mail hacking, data theft, online lottery, seeking sexual favour, blackmailing, Vishing, Phishing and white collar crimes were reported in Vizag and Vijayawada in 2015. Vizag stood first with 267 cases in the State.
