Vijayawada: The Cabinet on Tuesday approved the proposal for the construction of iconic IT towers in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Anantapur and Tirupati. These towers would come up under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.

The Cabinet had assigned the task of establishing the iconic towers to the Andhra Pradesh Technology Services Limited (APTSL), which would henceforth promote information technology in the State. It would also participate in similar tasks in other States on behalf of AP.

The APTSL would also take up joint ventures in the information technology with the private companies. It would also promote work with some other start-ups to develop new technologies and innovative technical devices. The Cabinet had authorised the APTSL to be the nodal agency for procurement of IT related items including CCTV cameras, computers, laptops and tablets for various government departments.

This would, while acting as procurement agency for the government, would go for procurement of electronic and
computer devices worth more than Rs 50 lakh. However, if the devices are innovative, it would also take up procurement for the government even if the project cost is less than Rs 50 lakh.

The APTSL would now explore the opportunities to build iconic towers in the four cities. The towers would come up in an extent of 10 lakh sq ft. The Cabinet had set the target of completing these towers in six months to one year.
