Narsapuram: West Godavari District Collector K Bhaskar suggested farmers to start the rabi crop by completing the kharif harvest in Godavari delta. He inaugurated the kharif harvest at the paddy fields in Chittavaram village in Narsapuram mandal on Saturday along with Narsapuram MLA Bandaru Madhava Naidu.

It may be mentioned here that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu started the “Eruvaka” programme in this field for the first time in the State. The Collector along with MLA Bandaru Madhava Naidu visited the field and started the harvest.

Later, addressing a meeting, the Collector said that the district administration supplied irrigation water to every acre without any hurdles. He said that during the Eruvaka” programme this year, the Chief Minister planted the saplings and a yield of around 30 bags per acre was received in that field.

He suggested to the farmers to complete the harvest by November first week and start the rabi cultivation. He said that for the last two years, the district recorded good yield to encourage the farmers. He suggested to the farmers to sow pulses like black gram, green gram to get an additional income of Rs 10,000 to 15,000 per acre.

He warned that cyclones may hit the district during November and added that farmers have to preserve their crops. He said that every acre of paddy fields received water including the tail-end lands. Narsapuram MLA Bandaru Madhava Naidu said that the timely action of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and District Collector K Bhaskar brought good yield to farmers.

Even during difficult times, the Collector steered the administration to supply irrigation water to those lands in the tail-end. Water Users Association president Pothuri Ramaraju, AMC Chairman Rayudu Sriramulu, Joint Director of Agriculture Y Sai Lakshmeswari and others participated in the programme.
