Vijayawada: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claimed that the NDA government at the Centre developed the State in the last two years better than what was done in the last 60 years of the Congress regime.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Friday, BJP senior leader and Minister for Health, Dr Kamineni Srinivas said that the NDA government had given 11 Central institutions to the State in a span of two years. “Not a single Central institution was given to the 13 districts of the State in the past 60 years,” he said.

Referring to the Special Category Status (SCS) demand, the Minister said that the SCS would be dropped for the existing States in the 2017. “No State in the country would have SCS and hence the demand for it is impractical,” he asserted. He said that the Central government had allocated Rs 2.25 lakh crore as special package to the State to compensate the bifurcation losses.

Reiterating that the Central government agreed to provide 100 per cent funding for the Polavaram project, apart from agreeing to fill Rs 22,500 crore revenue deficit, the Minister took strong exception to the criticism of the NDA government and BJP leaders by the Opposition parties.

He said Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu was working hard to get more funds and projects for the State and criticism against him was unwarranted.

Meanwhile, BJP SC Morcha State president and former legislator, Dara Sambaiah came down heavily on the Jana Sena president Pawan Kalyan for criticising the BJP leadership on Special Category Status.

Referring to Pawan’s remarks against Venkaiah Naidu, he wanted to know whether the actor was aware of the Central schemes and the package announced for the State. Ridiculing the remarks of the Left parties, he said that the Communists have lost their ground after Modi took over the reins of the Central government.

Claiming that the State would get an additional 50 Assembly seats by 2019 elections, Sambaiah appealed to the political parties to allocate at least 50 seats for the Scheduled Castes giving them due representation.
