Visakhapatnam: With the onset of proposed private and foreign universities in the State, there will be no danger for the future of non-teaching employees, mentioned Andhra University Vice-Chancellor Prof G Nageswara Rao while allaying fears.Speaking at the inaugural function of a two-day seminar on ‘Establishment of private universities-strengthening of government universities-employees’ future’ organised here on Wednesday by All Universities Non-Teaching Employees’ Association (AUNTEA) the VC assured that university authorities would always work for the employees’ welfare. Stating that there would be no threat for the employment guaranty, he called upon the participants to focus on skill development to suit the present day academic needs and to shed the anxiety from their minds about future.

He informed that five universities would be coming up soon and there was every need to resolve desparities between teachers, non-teaching staff and students. Health cards for the university employees would be given shortly, he added.

Registrar Prof Umamaheswara Rao, welcoming the discussion on the future of university employees, felt that the new universities to be set up also must overcome teething problems adding that a sum of Rs 300 crore was being spent on the salaries of total university staff per annum. AUNTEA President P K Subrahmanyam appealed to the authorities to initiate steps to regularise the services of temporary staff as the retirements were on the rise year after year.

If the vacant posts of teaching and non-teaching staff were filled in, there would be much scope to provide quality education, he added. Secretary General V Koti Reddy informed that there was a fear among the non-teaching staff if foreign and private universities were established. Damodaram Sanjeevaiah National Law University VC Prof V Kesava Rao, Krishna University VC Prof S Ramakrishna Rao, AUNTEA executive committee members SA Gouse Baba, M Chandrasekhara Reddy, Y Krishna and others attended.
