Speaking to The Hans India, an official of VMC said that a ruling party MLA mounted pressure on the government to give strict instructions to stop dumping of garbage in the excel plant. “What the officials can do when ruling party leaders failed to resolve the long pending dumping yard issue,” he lamented.

Vijayawada: An alleged cold war between legislators and Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has left citizens high and dry, with VMC stop garbage collection. While it is said that the collection of grabage was stopped from Thursday afternoon due to lack of dumping yard, sources indicate otherwise; nevertheless, the citizens were greeted by piles of garbage flanking the streets, on Friday.

Sources said that the VMC commissioner received instructions from Municipal Administration Department to not to proceed with garbage collection, until the issue of dumping yard was solved. This instruction has come after the relations between VMC commissioner G Veerapandian and city legislators soured, in wake of recent developments. Recently, Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Rammohan and MLC Budda Venkanna staged a protest in front of the VMC commissioner in support of street vendors of food court.

They duo along with another MLA reportedly complained to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on the VMC commissioner in particular and collector in general. It is learnt that some of the leaders of Telugu Desam Party in the city strongly demanded transfer of the commissioner.
In line with these developments, the commissioner reportedly received an instructions from government, asking him to stop dumping of garbage in excel plant, near Ajitsingh Nagar.

Speaking to The Hans India, an official of VMC said that a ruling party MLA mounted pressure on the government to give strict instructions to stop dumping of garbage in the excel plant. “What the officials can do when ruling party leaders failed to resolve the long pending dumping yard issue,” he lamented.

It should be recalled that VMC’s effort to dump the garbage at Kolanukonda village in Guntur was failed by the objection from locals and the VMC is seeking the help of Guntur district police to provide protection to the vehicles of VMC in Kolanukonda village of Guntur. It is learnt the local of Kolanukonda have warned the VMC staff not to dump the garbage near their village. The VMC has faced similar problem in other villages too when the garbage tractors went to their villages for dumping.
