BJP seeks probe into SVIMS irregularities

Tirupati: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded an inquiry into the alleged irregularities at Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS).

In a representation submitted to the Deputy Chief Minister N Chinna Rajappa on Sunday, BJP district general secretary P Bhaskar alleged large scale irregularities in the purchase of medicines including surgical equipment and allotment of shops at the institution.

SVIMS was purchasing medicines etc worth about Rs 3 crore every month on a nomination basis instead of calling for tenders, said Bhaskar and said this was because the officials of SVIMS were taking bribes from the suppliers, he said. Similarly, he accused SVIMS officials of corruption in the allotment of shops to chemists and druggists in SVIMS complex.
