Participating in a review meeting with bankers at Command Control Centre, here on Monday, the Chief Minister said the people had been in queues for the last two weeks to get their money but banks failed to resolve their woes.
There is no use even if he had been conducting review meetings on daily basis for sorting out the issue, he said, adding that apathy of bankers had made the situation hopeless.
Highlights:

- Expresses impatience at interminable wait for smaller denomination notes
- Asks officials to seek required quantity of smaller notes from RBI to be disbursed to pensioners
Naidu warned bankers that the government would take severe action, if they do not change their attitude. He wondered at lack of any improvement in the situation over the last two weeks even as people have been facing severe hardships and said because of this, the image of the government was getting tarnished.
Noting that supply of small denomination notes has been not up to the demand, he said withdrawal of money has become tough for those who had deposited it in the wake of note ban..
Expressing displeasure over the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) functioning too, the Chief Minister said that it should coordinate the banks to solve the issue in a speedy manner.
He also questioned the absence of lead bankers, while expressing displeasure over some bank officials coming to the meeting without adequate information.
He instructed the officials to take steps for paying salaries to employees and pensioners in the next week without any problem.
Asking the RBI to allocate Rs 400 crore in Rs 100 notes for paying pensions, he directed the Finance department officials to write to the RBI on the requirement.
Finance department Special Chief Secretary Ajay Kallam assured at the meeting that there would be no problem in payment of salaries to employees but small denomination notes were needed for pensioners.
Reacting to this, the Chief Minister directed the officials to fill the business correspondent posts immediately and use the services of ration dealers for this purpose temporarily.
For their part, bankers said that Rs 95 crore in Rs 500 note denomination and Rs 62 crore in Rs 100 denomination has been released into the market. Several senior officials also attended the meeting.
