Anupama Upadhyaya of Uttaranchal won double titles in DPS World School 30th Sub-junior National Badminton Championship which came to a close at Dandamudi Rajagopalarao Municipal Corporation (DRRMC) Indoor stadium in the city on Monday.
Anupama Upadhyaya of Uttaranchal won double titles in DPS World School 30th Sub-junior National Badminton Championship which came to a close at Dandamudi Rajagopalarao Municipal Corporation (DRRMC) Indoor stadium in the city on Monday. The third seeded under-13 girl Anupama Upadhyaya has excelled in singles as well as doubles and won the double.
In the finals under-13 singles the third seed Anupama Upadhyaya defeated top seeded Meghana Reddy of Telangana with 21-19, 21-19. She along with Awantika Pandey won over second seeded Shreeya Chittor (Telangana) and S Praveena (Tamilanadu) with 21-8, 21-16.
Interestingly National Badminton chief coach Pullela Gopichand’s son Sai Vishnu along with his partner Pranav Rao Gandham defeated by second seed Vamsi Krishna Raj A (AP) and Uneeth Krishna BV (TS) with 16-21, 15-21 in the under-13 boys doubles event.
Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) Vice-chairman and Managing Director (VC and MD) N Bangara Raju, Badminton Association of India (BAI) Vice-President S Muralidharan, tournament committee chairman Dr OD Sharma, joint secretary Omar Rashid and Andhra Pradesh Badminton Association (APBA) one of the founders and LIC retired senior officer Jerubula Ankamma Chowdary presented the prizes and cash awards to the winners and runners.
The SAAP VC and MD Bangara Raju felicitated Ankamma Chowdary. Speaking on the occasion APBA founder member Ankamma Chowdary said that he has been living for badminton. Winning is not important for the player, but everybody should love their sports and games, he suggested.
BAI secretary (tournaments) Kch Punnaiah Chowdary, Olympian PVV Lakshmi, APBA secretary Raghu Kiran, DPS World School Vice-chairman V Kumara Swamy, Vijayawada Club president S Vishnu, SAAP OSD P Rama Krishna, Krishna District Badminton Association president R Rammohan, secretary E Trimurthy and others participated in the programme.
