Eluru: West Godavari district Collector K Bhaskar directed officials to submit proposals for the construction of Rail-cum-Road Bridge across River Vasistha between Kotipalli and Narsapur.

He reviewed the land acquisition for the Kotipalli-Narsapur railway line and other issues with the officials at a meeting held in Collector’s meeting hall on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that it would be useful to the people of both Godavari districts if the Railway Bridge was constructed between Kotipalli and Narsapur.

He said that the railways have proposed to construct the bridge at Chinchinada and he suggested the railway authorities construct the bridge at Narsapur as it will be useful to export the coir, lace and aqua products.

He regretted that while he was discussing the change of location of construction of bridge with the officials for the past five weeks, the Railway Divisional Manager had announced that the bridge would be constructed at Chinchinada.

He questioned the railway officials as to whether they had informed the DRM about the discussions between railways and the district administration.

He pointed out that if the bridge was constructed at Chinchinada, the Narsapur station will become a terminal and also stated that due to poor connectivity between Kotipalli-Kakinada railway line, there was no train traffic except for two trains in that route.

He stated that if the bridge was constructed at Narsapur, it would be beneficial to railways commercially as a port would be constructed near the town.

The Collector said that the land acquisition for the railway projects will be taken up by administration soon and even if the funding from centre delayed, the administration will pay in advance for the land acquisition.

Railway officials said that the Railways had released Rs 13.5 crores for the land acquisition and the amount would be transferred to West Godavari district Collector within a week.

Earlier the Narsapur Sub-Collector Sumith Kumar Gandhi explained about the proposed railway project progress to the Collector in the meeting. Sub-Collectors Sumith Kumar Gandhi, Shan Mohan and Kovvuru RDO B Srinivasa Rao participated in the meeting.
