Tributes paid to Sadhu Subrahmanya Sastry

Tirupati: The temple management of TTD has paid rich tributes to Sadhu Subrahmanya Sastry, the scholarly epigraphist of TTD on his 127th birth anniversary here on Saturday.

The SVETA Director Anjaneyulu and other officials garlanded the statue of Subrahmanya Sastry marking the birth anniversary.Speaking on the occasion, Anjaneyulu said Sastry would be remembered forever for his outstanding research on the inscriptions in Tirumala adding to the glory and popularity of the temple and its deity Lord Venkateswara.

Sastry, who was in TTD service as Peishkar of Tirumala temple, had keen interest on epigraphy that ultimately driven him to take up intense research on the inscriptions found in Tirumala temple and also other temples under the control of TTD, in the process bringing the entire history of the famous temple to the world.

His books based on the findings in the inscriptions in Tirumala and other temple is a literary treasure and a rare historical record, he observed reminding that it was he who first brought to lime light the Sankeertanas of Tallapaka Annamacharya.

Sastry also brought out many interesting facts related to the development of Tirumala and other sub-shrines of TTD engraved on the inscriptions and copper plates and carried out a stupendous research work on it.

“Sastry translated 1,167 copper plates, which is a herculean task which he had done with commitment. He brought out the facts in the form of several volumes,” he added. Sadhu Girija, daughter of Sastry and his disciple and retired teacher Krishna Reddy and others were present.
