Visakhapatnam: The Polavaram project will permanently solve the water problem of the district by providing 24 tmc to the district, said Minister for Panchayat Raj Ch Ayyanna Patrudu. Similarly, eight lakh hectares of land would come under irrigation and fulfill the drinking water needs of the city permanently. Addressing the fourth phase of Janmabhoomi and Maa-Vooru organised in the South constituency at the Indira Priyadarshini Municipal Stadium here on Wednedsay, the Minister said the Janmabhoomi programme is being held at regular intervals to create awareness among the people on the projects being launched by the government and implementation of welfare schemes launched by the government.

He said that the municipal stadium will also be developed for which Rs 13.25 crore has been sanctioned. Since the GVMC has no funds, money from VUDA would be spent. Since land was not available in the Old City area under South Assembly segment, the Minister said the residents would be provided with alternative lands in other parts of the city. He appreciated local MLA Vasupalle Ganesh Kumar for the development that took place during the last two years. Collector Praveen Kumar said 4,500 houses being built under Hudhud scheme would be completed by June end this year.
