Vijayawada: CPM State secretary P Madhu disclosed that agitations against the Telugu Desam government will continue in 2017 if the government goes ahead with forcible land acquisition.
He quoted various instances of forcible land acquisition in many parts of the State particularly in Coastal districts. CPM State secretary P Madhu attended the Meet-the-Press conducted by the Press Club here on Saturday and expressed his views on the TDP government’s policies and sufferings of the farmers.
He took pot shots against the government for clamping 144 section in Vijayawada, Vizag and Tirupati on January 26 when youth and Opposition decided to stage peaceful protests against the apathy of the Union government in granting Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh. He questioned why the government is resorting to dictatorial attitude and suppressing the voices of the youth and political parties.
Referring to land acquisition, Madhu alleged that the Telugu Desam government was trying to amend the Land Acquisition -2013 policy made by the Union government with a view to forcibly take the land from the farmers without providing adequate compensation to the displaced families or land owners.
He said 2.5 lakh families would be affected with the construction of Polavaram project and warned that the CPM would stall Polavaram project works if the government fails to resolve the problems of the displaced families. He said that farmers are revolting against government in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, West Godavari, East Godavari and other Coastal districts against the forcible land acquisition.
He reminded that a large number of villagers raised revolt in Srikakulam district against the government for its failure to resolve the problems of Vamsadhara project affected people. He alleged that the government had not resolved the problem even after two years. He reminded that villagers in East Godavari are up in arms against the government on Divis Factory. He reminded that the villagers have raised a banner of revolt against the food processing unit in Tondurru village in West Godavari district.
He said that agitations increased in the State against the TDP autocratic rule in 2016 and predicted more agitations will take place in 2017 if the State government continues the same autocratic policies. He demanded that the State government immediately withdraw decisions on forcible land acquisition in the State.
