Guntur: Director General of Police (DGP) N Sambasiva Rao on Wednesday warned of stern action against traders selling spurious chilli powder and book cases under the Food and Adulteration Act.

The DGP addressed a meeting held in the Zilla Parishad meeting hall here attended by owners of cold storage units and officials.

Speaking on the occasion, he directed the owners of the cold storage units to set up fire safety equipment in the cold storage units to control flames if fire accident takes place.

He warned that the government would not tolerate if the owners of the cold storage units fail to take fire safety measures.

He said they would prepare guidelines to check fire accidents in the cold storage units which will be submitted to the government for implementation and prepare an action plan to implement it. He instructed the cold storage unit owners to follow the guidelines.

Minister for Agriculture Prathipati Pulla Rao directed the cold storage units to follow guidelines to be issued by the government and set up fire safety equipment to check fire accidents.

He said the fire safety equipment would go a long way in saving farmers who stored chilli or cotton in the cold storage units from incurring huge losses. He directed the owners of cold storage units not to keep stocks of spurious chilli powder.

He said as soon as the government get lab report on the quality of chilli powder, a stern action would be taken against the unscrupulous traders.

Stating that sale of spurious chilli powder is tarnishing the image of state capital Amaravati, he said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu instructed severe action against sellers of spurious chilli powder and seeds.
