Polavaram cofferdam works to start within a week
The coffer dam works, which are vital to the multi-purpose Polavaram irrigation project, will start in a week, according to water resources minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao.The minister visited Polavaram project site near Ramayyapeta village of Polavaram mandal on Monday. Eluru: The coffer dam works, which are vital to the multi-purpose Polavaram irrigation project, will start in a week, according to water resources minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao.The minister visited Polavaram project site near Ramayyapeta village of Polavaram mandal on Monday. He inspected the ongoing works of diaphragm wall, spillway and spill channel at the project site.Speaking to media, the Minister said that approvals for coffer dam designs would be received within a week. “We will start works as soon as we get approval from Central Water Commission (CWC),” he stated.
The minister said that the contracting agency was directed to complete the 669 metres of diaphragm wall works before the floods to river Godavari. “Already 206 metres of construction of the diaphragm wall is completed. Out of the 149 panels to the wall, 39 panels will complete soon,” he informed.Devineni said that the contracting agency has to complete 3.6 crore cubic metres earthworks. He directed the officials to speed up the project works.
Taking a dig at Opposition leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy, he accused YSRCP president of obstructing development of the State. Earlier, the Minister conducted a review meeting with contracting agency Transstroy at the project site.
Engineer in chief M Venkateswara Rao, Polavaram project superintending engineer VS Ramesh Babu, Water resources principal secretary Sasibhushan Kumar, executive engineers Pulla Rao, Kumar, Transstroy director M Sambasiva Rao and vice president Kavuri Tirumalesh participated in the review meeting.
