Vijayawada: As per the directive of the state government, Krishna district administration is aiming for ‘Smoke-free’ district and trying to ensure every household should have an LPG gas connection on or before June 2. The district revenue administration and civil supplies department conducted a special drive for gas connections and distributed them at revenue divisional level recently. Now, the district officers are focusing on every mandal and organise ‘Special Mela’ for LPG gas connections.

The Special Mela will be organised at all the Mandal Parishad Offices on Saturday and the Mandal Parishad Development Officers (MPDO) should take applications and sanction gas connection under Deepam scheme.Kerosene supply to white ration card holders will be stopped from June 1 and the same was confirmed by the Minister for Civil Supplies, Price Monitoring, Consumer Affairs and Food P Pulla Rao recently. He said that the state government's aim was pollution and smoke-free state by June 2. He also directed all the department officers to distribute LPG gas connections under Deepam scheme.

According to Krishna District Civil Supply Officer (DSO) Nageswara Rao, about 37,000 families have no gas connection so far. All these families would get LPG gas connections and for that purpose, a Special Mela will be conducted at MPDOs offices. On payment of Rs 1,000, everyone would get gas connection without stove, he added.

At present, about 12 lakh LPG gas connections are working in the district, he said. To fulfill the government’s aim, the entire department is being working on this particular programme, he added.The state government is trying to create awareness on smoke-free district and focusing on LPG gas connections. Every eligible person will get gas connection under Deepam scheme by paying Rs 1, 000 and loan facility will be provided to DWCRA group members by district administration.

District Collector B Lakshmi Kantham, in a press note on Friday, said that all the eligible persons should go to MPDO office along with Aadhar, Ration card, Bank account Xerox copies and two passport size photos and obtain LPG gas connection. He further said that Pollution and Smoke-free district is the main motive of the state government. Moreover he said that people need not buy gas stove and they can get only gas connection by paying Rs 1, 000.
