Anantapur: District Collector G. Veera Pandian reviewed the on-going works relating to establishment of automobile major Kia Motors of South Korea at the identified site in Penukonda town. He asked officials to speed up the infrastructure creation works for the establishment of the car manufacturing firm and hasten the establishment of the company which is bound to trigger in industrial development and create thousands of jobs for the jobless youth.

He directed the APIIC zonal manager to immediately take up ground leveling works, organising of water and power supply and laying of internal roads and linking them to the national highway apart from relocating the high tension power lines and the cell towers. He instructed the APIIC to immediately call for tenders in this regard. He warned officials against lethargy and ensure timely completion of the scheduled works.

It may be recalled that the Kia Motors Corporation, the global automobile giant from Seoul, the capital of South Korea had signed an MOU recently with the government of AP. The Kia Cars establishment related infrastructure works will be speeded up from June 2017 at Erramanchi village in Penukonda mandal in Anantapur district.

Kona Sasidhar, the former collector had done all the ground work needed for the project by flying to Seoul way back in January 2017 and gave all the assurances needed to the Kia group and explained in detail the arrangements and infrastructure facilities the government will be creating for the car manufacturing major.

Overruling pressures from the southern states of Tamil Nadu and even the neighbouring Karnataka state apart from Maharashtra, the Kia group batted for AP state in view of the red carpet invitation provided to them involving several privileges. Keen to bag the project and make AP the automobile hub, the government initiated a slew of measures to extend several incentives.

Since January the district administration initiated measures including land allotment and creation of infrastructure facilities including water and power supply arrangements. For supplying water to the cars project, the government is planning to divert water from Gollapalle reservoir. Since last year the government had been bringing Krishna water to Gollapalle. The reservoir capacity is 0,6 tmc of water while the Kia project requires 0.3 tmc of water per year.
