Warns of dismantling ponds, if permissions were given to convert fertile lands as aqua ponds

Peravali (West Godavari): Andhra Pradesh Vyavasaya Karmika Sangham (APVKS) state general secretary V Venkateswarlu warned the government against sanctioning permissions to convert fertile lands into aqua ponds. “We will not keep quiet. We will dismantle the illegally-constructed tanks,” he added.

The anti-aqua ponds campaign ‘Prachara Bheri’ taken up by APVKS and Andhra Pradesh Koulu Rythu Sangham (APKRS) started at Kanuru village in Peravali mandal on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, Venkateswarulu expressed concern over the indiscriminate digging of aqua ponds in fertile lands that cultivates two crops per year.

He stated that the agriculture labour might lose their employment on digging of aqua ponds and no tenant farmer gets land to cultivate in the district. He alleged that the agriculture, fisheries, irrigation and pollution control board officials were issuing permissions against the prevailing GOs.

APKRS district secretary K Srinivas expressed concern over spreading of the aqua ponds in the delta area. They demanded the district administration to take action against the digging of saltwater bore wells in the delta besides dismantling the already existing bore wells. They said that they would hold Chalo Collectorate programme on June 2, along with farmers.
The campaign went on the main streets of Kanuru besides Usulumarru and Peravali villages.
