Panchayat raj and rural development minister Nara Lokesh directed the officials to ensure safe drinking water in the rural areas where there is a danger of epidemic outbreak during the rainy season. Lokesh held a review meeting with the officials of panchayat raj, rural development and Rural Water Supply in his chamber at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

Amaravati: Panchayat raj and rural development minister Nara Lokesh directed the officials to ensure safe drinking water in the rural areas where there is a danger of epidemic outbreak during the rainy season. Lokesh held a review meeting with the officials of panchayat raj, rural development and Rural Water Supply in his chamber at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

He asked the officials to finalise the modalities for the yet to be established Drinking Water Corporation and observed that there is a need for coordination between various departments for the better working of the proposed corporation. He said the Irrigation department, RWS, Municipal departments should work with coordination for establishing the Drinking Water Corporation with less expense.

He said after the establishment of the corporation, every household will get drinking water through tap connection within two years.While directing the officials complete Swachh Village programme, Lokesh said the villages which stand out in maintaining cleanliness should be rewarded suitably. He asked them to complete the NTR Sujala Sravanthi water plants at Uddhanam by July ending.
