Visakhapatnam: Priests at Simhachalam temple performed ‘Unjal Seva’ with pomp and religious fervour to the deities of Sri Lakshmi Nrusimha Swamy and his Consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi at Nitya Kalyana Mandapam in the main temple at Simhachalam here on Wednesday.

Priests brought the utsava vigrahas in a procession and performed the seva with gaiety amidst Vedic hymns interspersed with Annamacharya keerthanas rendered by eminent singers. Priests danced during the keerthana recital inspiring the devotees to follow suit and chants of `Govinda’ and ‘Narasimha ’ reverberating in the air. A large number of devotees participated and watched the Seva.

Unjal Seva is performed to invoke the God’s blessings to help people shed their wavering thoughts and promote spiritual thinking and attain mental bliss, priest Seetha Rama Swami said. Laxmikanth Nayako Das, a priest from Odisha, performed the Unjal Seva that dates back to centuries. Spreading the message of the Vedic scriptures among people would reform their mindset, Das said. Thousands of devotees from Odisha, who are followers of Lakshmikanth Nayako Das witnessed the Unjal Seva.
