Visakhapatnam: Forum for Development of North Andhra (FDNA) Aja Sharma here on Thursday urged the SIT to investigate into the Simhachalam Devasthanam land scam and take action against the culprits.

He lodged a complaint with Special Investigation Team which is probing into the alleged land scams in the district. Revealing the land scam details in the petition to the media here on Thursday, Aja Sharma said that in 1996, the tahsildars of Chinagadili and Pendurty mandals gave pattas covering 11,000 acres to the Simhachalam temple.

In fact, the lands were being cultivated by the farmers in Adavivaram, Vepagunta, Venkatapuram, Cheemalapalli and Purushottamapuram villages.

With the revenue department’s endorsement of the 11,000 acres, the temple with the GO No 578 asked the farmers and other owners of the lands to regularise the lands with the devasthanam.

Various associations and individuals filed petitions in the High Court challenging the government decision. The High Court in its verdict, said that the issue should be finalised by the revenue divisional officer.

The Visakhapatnam RDO after conducting the inquiry, said in his verdict that the orders of tahsildars of Chinagadili and Pendurthy were wrong and the officials did not even conduct a survey before giving the ownership deed to the temple.

The RDO, Visakhapatnam gave his verdict on April 3, 2010, but still, no action was taken on the RDO verdict, Aja Sharma mentioned in his report.

Meanwhile, in Adavivaram panchayat, the land records were tampered and a three-member committee conducted a probe and confirmed that the records were tampered involving 1,180 acres of land. In other survey numbers also, records were tampered and a huge extent of land was encroached by the private persons, Aja Sharma alleged in the petition.

However, no action was taken so far and without any survey and the government gave away 11,000 acres of the land belonging to the farmers, the government has given pattas to Simhachalam Devasthanam. Asa result, the state government itself has become a land grabber and was trying to protect the officials who committed the irregularities to benefit the influential persons in the government, Aaja Sharma alleged.
