Vijayawada: Student Federation of India (SFI) state committee organised ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ at Dharna Chowk here on Friday. MLC Boddu Nageswara Rao joined the dharna in support of the SFI members.

Addressing the gathering Nageswara Rao demanded the government to increase the mess charges along with cosmetic charges to the inmates of welfare hostels in the state and further demanded not to close the hostels by giving false promises that it would be turned into residential schools.

Speaking to the students who had come from various parts of AP, SFI state secretary S Noor Mohammad said that government did not permit holding a peaceful protest.

The protest was held to demand increase of mess charges from Rs. 750 to Rs. 1500 and cosmetic charges and stop closing welfare hostels in the state.

Till morning the government and the police department did not give permission to hold a peaceful protest which was against the rights of the citizen.

Noor Mohammad had said that the government was continuing the mess charges which were enhanced in 2012 and SFI demands the government to increase them to Rs. 1500 as all the prices of commodities had increased.
