Vijayawada: Leaders of Left parties at a round table meet condemned attacks on Dalits and caste discrimination in few areas of the State. They d demanded that the government should implement the SC, ST Atrocity Act in letter and spirit to check the attacks.

The round table meeting, which was held at Makineni Basavapunnaiah Vignana Kendram (MBVK) here on Monday, was attended by CPM state secretary P Madhu, CPI state secretary K Ramakrishna and other leaders.

They passed six resolutions and demanded that the state government should resolve all the demands within two weeks. It demanded that the state government should implement assurances given to Garagaparru Dalits, apart from handing over lands to Devarapalli Dalits and avoiding caste discrimination in conducting Mahabharatham festivities in Chittoor district.

Speaking on the occasion, CPM state secretary P Madhu alleged that attacks on Dalits were on the rise. “Unfortunately, caste discrimination is seen at Ilaparru, Devarapalli and other places,” he lamented.

He accused the government of taking back from lands from Dalits to the tune of 10,000 acres. CPI state secretary K Rama Krishna said that after Narendra Modi government came to power in Centre, attacks on Dalits were increased. “Both the Central and state are governments not implementing even a single scheme for the development of Dalits,” he alleged.
