Thousands of villagers blocked the road in Kukunuru mandal on Thursday in protest against the irregularities in the R & R package list, which did not include many villages that are going to be submerged in the ongoing Polavaram Irrigation Project.
Eluru : Thousands of villagers blocked the road in Kukunuru mandal on Thursday in protest against the irregularities in the R & R package list, which did not include many villages that are going to be submerged in the ongoing Polavaram Irrigation Project.
Kukunuru and Velairpadu mandals have been merged in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh as those mandals might submerge in the ongoing Polavaram Irrigation Project, after the state’s bifurcation.
However, the Andhra Pradesh Government did not show any interest on these mandals to implement the R & R package.
The irate villagers of 39 villages in these mandals came on the roads in protest against the R& R package list which did not include so many villages and removing the eligible persons. About 29,225 families have to get the compensation as those lands and villages might be inundated in the Polavaram project. The Revenue officials who released the final list have no names of eligible people and so many villages also did not place in the list.
With this, the displaced people of Kukunuru mandal have reached to Kukunuru and staged dharna first at Tahsildar office and went to Kukunuru centre main road that leading to Amaravaram village and sat on the road.
They raised slogans against the officials for their negligence in preparing the R & R package list. The agitating villagers
said that as some ineligible people’s names have been included in the displaced villages and fake voter identity cards and fake Aadhaar Cards also were produced to include in the list.
Knowing this, the Sub-Collector of Kukunuru Shanmohan who was also Rehabilitation officer has filtered the list and officials announced that they have removed the ineligible and bogus names from the list. Even when they met Polavaram MLA Modiam Srinivasa Rao, no official came to Kukunuru as promised by MLA, they alleged.
Following the mass irregularities in the R and R package list, thousands of people reached Kukunuru and started the blockade of the road between Kukunuru and Amararam. Due to the blockade, traffic has been stranded over six hours.
The CPI and CPM parties activists have supported the agitating villagers and conducted a bike rally in the village.
The CPI district council secretary Dega Prabhakar alleged that about 4,000 eligible beneficiaries were not included in the relief and rehabilitation package lists in the submerging mandals of Kukunuru, Velairpadu mandals in West Godavari district.
He requested the Collector to consider the Mandal as a single unit in implementing the R & R package. Kukunuru Mandal Tahsildar Nagaraju Nayak reached the spot and assured them that he will rectify the problem. With this, the villagers withdrew their road blockade.
