Visakhapatnam: The dengue is rampant in the district and so far 439 cases were registered in various hospitals out of 1,927 suspected cases.
The incidence is more in the rural areas where patients are thronging the hospitals.
From January till end of September this year, 2,877 blood samples were collected for dengue and 1,927 are suspected and of them 439 cases were confirmed by the district medical and health officials.
The officials said the condition of 25 children is serious and undergoing treatment at paediatric ward in King Gorge Hospital . The doctors of KGH are continuously monitoring the situation.
But the parents are worried and distressed over the pathetic conditions in the ward.
There are no sufficient beds and the children are forced to share the beds. Every bed is occupied by three children. The children’s ward has 120 beds and of them 60 beds loaded with the newborn babies. Doctors said 12 children with dengue were admitted to paediatric ward during last five days.
Thirupathi Rao a father of dengue patient, said that the doctors are delaying the treatment putting
burden on others. He said the doctors are seen only in the morning hours and they will attend only serious cases in the night, he said.
“My child was admitted with dengue and frequently getting fits. Since one week we are in the hospital no doctor explained the case details,’’ said Arjuna Rao from Anandapuram. Superintendent of King Gorge Hospital G Arjuna said that the treatment for the dengue patients will be for 24 hours and admit all the patients brought to KGH though there is less space.
District medical and health officer Dr R Ramesh said all the fevers need not be construed as dengue, which need to be told to the people.
“We will start treating for dengue only after getting the test reports unlike private hospitals,” the DMHO said.
He said special drive and medical camps are being organised all over the district.
