According to police, Sk Yacoob, an undertrial prisoner who was in Rajahmahendravaram Central Jail, was allowed to attend his mother’s last rites in Suddapalli village of Chebrole mandal in Guntur. His relatives Mahaboob Khan and Pathan Quddus along with Guntur Armed Reserve Constables Ch Koteswara Rao, V Venkata Narayana and Head Constable B Prasada Rao went to Rajahmahendravaram in a private van on Saturday night.

After completing the formalities, the Jail authorities allowed Yacoob to go with the Armed Reserve Police. While they were on their way to Guntur, a speeding truck hit the van from rear near Denduluru village in West Godavari district on the National Highway and the van overturned.

The six persons travelling in the van were injured. As the undertrial Yacoob received minor injuries, he was shifted to Denduluru police station for custody. The other five persons including three AR personnel were admitted to Eluru Government Hospital.

Yacoob was an accused in a murder case and was arrested by Chebrole police in Guntur district. He was remanded to Rajahmundry Central jail, according to police. Meanwhile, Fatima, mother of Yacoob, died at Suddapalli village on Saturday.

Following her death, his relatives requested the Guntur Superintendent of Police to allow Yacoob to attend the last rites of his mother. After the formalities, the SP has directed AR personnel to bring the undertrial Yacoob to Suddapalli. While the police were taking him to Suddapalli, they met with the accident. Denduluru police registered a case.
